CARF logoBlake Medical Center in Manatee County and Fawcett Memorial Hospital in Charlotte County provide Commission on Accreditation of Rehabilitation Facilities (CARF) accredited Inpatient Rehabilitation programs. To earn this distinction, a rehabilitation facility must pass an in-depth review of its services. It is assurance that the facility meets rigorous CARF guidelines for service and quality and conforms to nationally and internationally recognized service standards.

Comprehensive Stroke Center

Northside Hospital is one of only 18 hospitals in the state to earn Comprehensive Stroke Center designation. To receive this distinction, a hospital must achieve Primary Stroke Center certification and provide a full spectrum of neuroscience-related care, including the latest in detection, treatment and rehabilitation for stroke patients.

Get With the Guidelines

Ten HCA West Florida Hospitals have earned 11 awards for their outstanding performance with the America Heart Association/American Stroke Association’s Get With the Guidelines.  The hospitals are featured in an ad appearing in the July 27 edition of US News and World Report.  Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point was the only hospital in the Tampa Bay area and one of only three in the state to earn Triple Gold Recognition in all three areas – Stroke, Coronary Artery Disease and Heart Failure.

Get with the Guidelines is a program that helps hospitals apply American Heart Association/American Stroke Association guidelines to the treatment of heart disease and stroke.  

Triple Gold Recognition is awarded to hospitals that for two or more years achieved 85% or higher adherence on all achievement measures applicable to coronary artery disease (CAD), heart failure (HF) and stroke (S) in addition to 75% or higher adherence to select HF and/or S quality measures if designated as Plus.

Gold Plus achievement is awarded to hospitals that for 24 months achieve 75% or higher adherence on select quality measures in addition to at least 24 months of 85% or higher adherence on all achievement measures applicable to one or two of the following: HF and/or S.

Gold achievement is awarded to hospitals with two or more years at 85% or higher adherence on all achievement measures applicable to one or more of the following: CAD, HF and/or S.

Silver Plus achievement is awarded to hospitals for 12 months of 75% or higher adherence on select quality measures in addition to at least 12 months of 85% or higher adherence on all achievement measures applicable to one or more of the following: HF and/or S.

Silver achievement is awarded to hospitals for 12 consecutive months at 85% or higher adherence on all achievement measures applicable to one or more of the following: CAH, HF and/or S.

Three Star Rating by Society for Thoracic Surgeons

Brandon Regional Hospital and Osceola Regional Medical Center have received a “3 Star” rating from The Society of Thoracic Surgeons (STS) for quality care in cardiac surgery.

The STS is a professional not-for-profit organization representing 6,000 surgeons, researchers, and allied health professionals worldwide. The STS maintains the largest clinical outcomes database for cardiothoracic patients in the United States with more than three million cardiothoracic procedures represented. In order to achieve this high rating, the hospital had to exceed or come within range in four critical areas of evaluation; avoidance of mortality, avoidance of morbidity, use of the internal mammary artery and appropriate medication administration.

2010 Get With the Guidelines Triple Recognition logoThe HCA West Florida Division congratulates the following nine hospitals for earning top performance achievement by The Joint Commission: Central Florida Regional Hospital in Seminole County, Doctors Hospital of Sarasota, Edward White Hospital in St. Petersburg, Fawcett Memorial Hospital in Port Charlotte, Largo Medical Center in Largo, Oak Hill Hospital in Hernando County, Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point in Pasco County and South Bay Hospital in Sun City Center.

The Joint Commission recognized 405 hospitals as top performers in using evidence-based care processes closely linked to positive patient outcomes, in 22 measure related to cardiac, pneumonia, surgical and pediatric asthma care. This represents about 14 percent of Joint Commission-accredited hospitals and critical access facilities.  It is the first time ever the organization released such a list in their annual report on quality and safety.

The 2010 data shows performance gains for heart-attack, pneumonia, surgical and children's asthma care.

In addition to being included in the release of The Joint Commission’s “Improving America’s Hospitals” annual report, all nine hospitals will also be recognized on The Joint Commission’s Quality Check website.
